Collaborative Protocol Transition

Completion Status

During the REMAC meeting held on May 16th, 2017, it was decided that all Finger Lakes Regional EMS Agencies practicing at the BLS level or higher must transition their BLS Providers to the NYS Collaborative Protocols by September 1st, 2017.

To complete the transition, advanced level agencies and providers must accomplish the following:

Providers

  • All BLS level providers must complete the Protocol Attestation
  • The test you will be taking is to verify that you understand how to navigate the protocols. Some questions may reference protocols that this region is not using.
  • The Finger Lakes Region is not using: 1-3 Cardiac Arrest Double Sequential Defibrillation for any Providers, 2-14 Childbirth - Uterine replacement for for any Providers, or 2-33 General: Patella Dislocation for BLS Providers
  • All BLS level providers must complete the NYS Collaborative Protocol Test (1 hour CME credit)
  • Providers that have completed a NYS Collaborative Protocol Test and Protocol Attestation in a region that is not participating in the Central New York EMS Testing and Verification system and do not wish to complete the test to receive CME Credit for the Central New York EMS Test must:
    • Register on the website
    • Submit a copy of their regions certificate to the agency(ies) where they will be practicing
    • Submit a copy of their regions certificate to the Finger Lakes Regional Program Agency along with a list of agencies where you will be practicing
    • Once the certificate is verified the agency(ies) will be notified that the provider is cleared to use the Collaborative Protocol

Agencies

  • Agency Medical Directors should review the protocols
  • Obtain a list of providers from the Finger Lakes Regional Program Agency that have complete the Protocol Attestation and Collaborative Protocol Test
  • Update their drug formularies to conform with the Collaborative Protocols
  • Any BLS level agencies may switch to the collaborative Protocols at any time prior to September 1st, however providers at that agency whom have not completed the Protocol Attestation and the Collaborative Protocol Test or have not been verified by the Finger Lakes Regional Program Agency may not until those items are completed or verified
  • All BLS level agencies must maintain a record of providers Protocol Attestation and Collaborative Protocol Test (1 hour CME credit) on file

Once you have registered, you will need to wait to be verified in our region. Although the instructions state to send a copy of your provider card we are not requiring you to do so at this time. The verification may take a few days. You will then receive an e-mail to setup your password.

Some providers may already be registered in the system. Should that be the case please attempt to log in with the e-mail address that would have been used to create the account. If you do not remember that e-mail address or no longer have access to that e-mail address do not create a new account. Please e-mail Nathan Miller and include your full name, phone number, EMT number, and the e-mail address that you would like to use for access to the site.

Once you have access to the site look for the following tests under the Take a Test tab. Take the test listed below (All providers must complete the Protocol Attestation):

          For ALL Providers who missed the June and September Deadlines
          All Providers                 Protocol Attestation (Required) v17

          For BLS  Providers who missed the September 1st Deadline
          BLS Providers               North Country Protocol Test - EMT

          For ALS Providers who missed the June 1st Deadline
          AEMT Providers             Protocol Test - AEMT v17
          Critical Care Providers     Protocol Test - Critical Care v17
          Paramedic Providers       Protocol Test - Paramedic v17
